A very unique bike. This Forty Eight Special has been used and is a clear testament that a Sportster can in fact be ridden and the engines do endure high mileage as well as their bigger cousins. With 60K miles one of the higher mileage bike out there. Of course they come with the typical battle scars. See the walk around in which we usually point to the defects, in this one we did not. Simply go through it slowly. There is paint damage on most body panels, some paint peeling and some peeling that was covered with black paint such as the instrument bezel and the lower front forks. The front brake switch for the brake light is stuck in the on position.
Here is the great news. The bike runs excellent. The clutch cable is getting stiff and probable needs a replacement soon but still works just fine. This is an excellent low budget bike for someone who does not care about “looks” but wants to simply ride. No fuzz, just like its previous owner, enjoy the fun a Forty Eight Special can give you. Rear tire needs replacing ($180)
The Sportster is offered in two power units. The traditional 883 engine and the 1200 engine. Both are equally interesting bikes with tons of options by aftermarket manufacturers to customize this bike from head to toe for small money.
